Takara Restaurant Japonais is the Japanese restaurant I frequent the most in Montreal. I've known Takara since my High-School years in Montreal. Even though I no longer in Montreal, I still go to Takara every time I visit the city.
Takara isn't featured or advertised in every single tourist guide of Montreal but.... trust me, it's the 'secret jewel' in Centre-Ville de Montréal (downtown Montreal).
The Sushi chef is so friendly~ Isn't it really usual but cute that he's wearing shirt and tie to make sushi?
He doesn't seem to be aging....his look hasn't changed at all after all these year...
And Look at those long-neck cranes made of napkins.... so elegant and fun!
Takara offers a variety of Japanese cuisine on their menu. However, I come here 'solely' for their Specialty Rolls. ('solely' might be an exaggeration but 'mainly' for sure...hhahaha)
It's not that Takara doesn't make other dishes well, every thing is very delicious, it's just that I could get all other kinds of dishes at other Japanese Restaurants, and I just can't pass up their Specialties every time I get the chance to come here.
Honestly, so far I cannot find any Japanese restaurants that make Maki Rolls as good and as original as Takara. (In most Japanese Restaurants, the most complex roll are Dragon Roll, Rainbow Roll, and Spider Rolls.... which are not very surprising)
Another thing about Takara's rolls is that the size of the maki is big compared to other Jap places at the same price range. I feel worth it for the money.
So let's get to the main show~ I love the beautiful presentation of the Makis! So pleasing!
Tempura Maki on the top left: Fried maki. Tuna, salmon, shrimp, squid, green onion, plum paste, sauce.
Unagi Maki on the top right: BBQ eel, masago, green onion, sauce and sesame on top, spicy salmon inside.
Cool Mont-Roya, bottom: Beef tataki, sauce and shichimi on top, mushrooms inside.
Unagi Maki again on the top left. It's my favorite roll! Look at that spicy salmon oozing out~ so yummy! I love Unagi!! ^^
Sushi Canappé on the top right and close-up at the bottom.
Fried Sushi. Spicy tuna ontop of crispy sushi canappé.
Here's Seafood Tempura: 2 shrimps, 2 salmon, 2 white fish. Their sauce is ginger-infused and served warm! MMmmm~
Vegetable and chicken Udon in miso soup.
Large portion, generous and varied ingredients. Very filling!
Their handrolls and sashimi are first-grade too!
If you enjoy Japanese food as much as I and every come visit Montreal, skip one of the meals in your guided tour if possible and come to Takara! You won't regret! LOL
It's that GOOD!
If you're already in Montreal, Takara is a great place to get relaxed, and refueled after hours of shopping in Eaton Center and on St Catherine Street!
